My understanding of strategies for working effectively with parents derives from both my theoretical studies and my classroom experiences. I am also a parent of school-age children and can fully appreciate the needs for sensitivity and confidentiality.

In both of my practicum classes I engaged with parents/ care-givers by greeting them each morning and participating in general after-school discussions. I contributed to class weekly newsletters and requested parental help for reading and art activities. |

Example
As part of a Literacy study, I requested and engaged a parental support for conducting a number of diagnostic tests with their daughter. I provided timely and relevant feedback to the parent and built a strong relationship with the family when working with the student on her literacy skills.

- I am scheduled to observe/participate in parent/teacher interviews in term four to gain some experience and learn some strategies for effective parental communication. This is a Reception class in which I am currently a volunteer classroom assistant.
