3.2 Plan, structure and sequence learning programs
Graduate level: 'Plan lesson sequences using knowledge of student learning, content and effective teaching strategies'.
I believe that I have met the graduate requirements of this standard as evidenced below.
My knowledge for planning learning programs has been gained through all my topics studied in my Masters of teaching. Each topic required detailed lesson and unit plans as part of assessment. An example of one of my planned units (year two, Measurement & Geometry) is below. (Clicking on image will present larger image).

I have applied this knowledge in my practice.
In my final practicum year two class I planned and implemented a Literature unit including writing poetry and reading/writing narratives:

When planning I use clear learning objectives.
I use the principles of 'Know, Understand, Do' as explained in this visual representation.

'Louise had a clear direction for what she wanted each child to achieve in every lesson that she delivered. She set clear expectations at the beginning of the lesson and all students were aware of their role in both their learning and behaviours. Louise's plans were well researched and showed a good understanding of the learning appropriate for the year level and abilities of the groups.Louise was able to adapt her program to accommodate the interruptions that frequently occurred due to the many different school activities, ensuring that she followed up at a later time and that work was finished'. Example two In my practicum year two class I planned and taught handwriting lessons following the DECD published recommended guidelines:DECD Handwriting Program. Here is a photograph of one student's work Example three
I try to use a variety of teaching strategies within my lessons to engage all students in learning. When teaching students about writing narratives we used a number of planning tools to help each of them structure their own stories. The image is of a 'Z' plan for a narrative that I demonstrated in a lesson. It helps students who are more visual in their learning. At the end of this lesson all students were able to create their own 'resolution' to a familiar story, and in the next they created a z-plan for their own narrative. |
Example four
Throughout my teaching I continuously reflect on each lesson in terms of content, student engagement and outcomes achieved, etc. Here is an example of my reflection which led to a change to a planned lesson within the aforementioned literature unit, to ensure that students understood the concept before progressing with writing narratives.

Professional learning
I attended a workshop demonstrating the use of the Curriculum Organiser Online software. This program contains scope and sequence, classroom teacher prepared units of work, hyper-linked online resources, Skootle materials, web links and IWB collated resources and lesson plans for Australian Curriculum, Early Years Learning Framework (and SACSA).
It is an invaluable tool and one which I will most definitely use when planning in the classroom.
