I believe that I have met the graduate requirements of this standard as evidenced below.
I have developed my knowledge and skills in using ICT in the curriculum from topics studied in my Masters of Teaching:
- Numeracy and ICT (2013)
- Express Arts Curriculum Studies: Visual Arts, Drama, Media, Music and Dance (2012)
I have applied my knowledge and skills in my practice.
Example One: iPad technologyIn my recent practicum school I collaborated with my mentor teacher to introduce the use of iPads within the classroom. My year two class was chosen to trial the technology and we worked together to develop rules and strategies for effective iPad use. I used the iPads as a tool for engagement in teaching narratives - using apps such as 'Sparklefish' - and for reinforcing learned concepts, for example, 'telling time' in mathematics. I incorporated iPad use into the history unit about the school, with the students using them to take photos of the present to compare them with past photos of the school. I also taught skills in Microsoft PowerPoint so as the students could produce an individual presentation about the history of their school using their photos and written text. This is a photograph of the display we created in the classroom.
Example Two: Creating video resource
As an assessment task for 'Numeracy and ICT', I worked collaboratively in a partnership to create, film and edit a video that would illustrate links between numeracy and the community. I worked through a process of storyboarding, filming with a small handheld video recorder and editing using the software programme 'Movie Maker'. The final film is a useful practical resource for engaging primary students in both numeracy and using ICT. Having thoroughly enjoyed this task, I am keen to implement movie-making in my classroom whether I am teaching junior, middle or upper primary students. |
