1.6 Strategies to support full participation of students with disability
Proficient level: Design and implement teaching activities that support the participation and learning of students with disability and address relevant policy and legislative requirements.
When planning I always differentiate for students with disabilities, particularly learning disabilities. I have been teaching a class of Year 3/4s for the past two terms and I need to cater for the needs of a child on the Autism Spectrum. His literacy skills are exceptional but he does not engage in the activities in the same way as the other students. I always ensure that he has a suitable choice of activities in which to participate which will access the same learning as the rest of the class.
Below is an example of the Spelling Matrix I created for all students to choose from. My student on the Spectrum is very creative and enjoys writing comic books. I have included 'cartoon strips' as an option for practising spelling words.
